This week we have a crush on Australian Indie-Rock act, Gang of Youths. The group is back with their moving new single “the angel of 8th ave.”, arriving as the first taste of the band’s growth since the success of their 2017 album Go Farther In Lightness.
Le’aupepe reflects on his life throughout this record. With “the angel of 8th ave.”, his lyrical approach has changed and his focus is on exposing the beauty and elegance of conversational, tell-as-it-is language in a song about the grandest of emotions. “It’s about falling in love, and finding a new life in a new city together," tells Dave.
The motorik grooves and luminous synths are a result of the band’s classical minimalism, brit-pop, pop, punk, and post punk influences. They emphasise the emotions embedded in the lyrics of the track.
This powerful and poetic release is just the beginning of another monumental year for Gang of Youths, leaving listeners excited for what is yet to come.
