Today we're crushing on this new single from Pema, an experimental pop project from Brooklyn-based Alex Cohen (aka Alex Napping - her 4 piece band). "Cry" is from her forthcoming second album "Bad Habits" and it's just the right sound to ease you into the weekend. We're feeling shades of Nite Jewel and Janet Jackson straight away! About the song, Alex says "I’ve only recently started to fully allow myself be upset or emotional at times and ‘Cry’ is the song in which I come to terms with that. We as a society tend to view strong emotions as inherently bad and irrational, especially when they are from women, and a lot of the men I have been close to often resort to either trying to immediately fix the situation, or worse, minimize the way I’m feeling. Sometimes you just need to go through the motions of feeling your feelings. Despite the slightly sulky nature of the song, I very intentionally tried to make it the danciest on the record.”
This album has been recorded and arranged mostly in her bedroom in Brooklyn, it is the first LP that Cohen has entirely self-produced. We're hangin to hear more! Check out "Cry" below on your fave service
