Dande and The Lion I “Higher Places”

This week we have a crush on “Higher Places”, the latest single from indie-pop four-piece Dande and The Lion. Coming in hot as their first release since their 2019 EP “Twilight Highway”.

“I wrote the intro riff and the bare skeleton to this song about 8 years ago and then I left it in my little book of notes. Shortly after the band formed in 2016, the lyrics just came to me all at once and I knew in that moment that the music I’d written years prior would be a perfect fit.

I wanted to take the listener on a journey with me to feel the excitement, love, joy and pain of opening your heart to another human and connecting with them at a deeper level, beyond friendship. I took the song to the band and we worked out all the details. I wanted Abbey to start the song and for me to come in after the first chorus to create that feeling of two different perspectives on an experience that two people were sharing.

Our producer and engineer, Lachlan Mitchell, had a big influence on me and has been on this song's journey with us over the past couple of years - we have him to thank for bringing it to life the way I envisaged it.”

With a high energy production style and vocals that are deeply moving, this track proves the development and strength the band beholds. Overcoming the lockdown struggles of 2020 and saying goodbye to band member Bianca, Dande and The Lion stand resilient and better than ever.
