Charly Bliss’s Forever is a radiant return that celebrates life, love, and everything in between. Produced by Jake Luppen and Caleb Wright of Hippo Campus, this album bursts with the infectious energy that first drew fans to the band while also showing a deeper, more mature side of their sound. The five-year gap since Young Enough has been a period of growth for the band, personally and musically.
When Charly Bliss sat down to write new music, they started with a simple directive: “It has to be fun.” After the rigorous experience of recording, releasing, and touring Young Enough, the band felt creatively overcooked and needed to recapture the joy that defined their early work. This ethos of fun is evident throughout Forever, as the album explodes with energy and enthusiasm. “Fun is our natural state,” says guitarist Spencer Fox, and it’s clear that the band’s camaraderie and shared history as lifelong friends—including siblings Eva and Sam Hendricks—fuel the album’s vibrant sound.

Opening with the punchy “Tragic,” the album immediately pulls you in with its infectious energy, a hallmark of Charly Bliss’s sound. But this time around, there’s an added layer of emotional depth. Songs like “Back There Now” and “I’m Not Dead” reflect on the passage of time and the challenges of maintaining personal connections in the face of life’s upheavals. Yet, despite these weighty themes, the music remains buoyant and full of life, much like fireworks exploding in the night sky.
The global pandemic uniquely shaped the album’s creation process. Unlike previous records, where the band would write together in a room, Forever saw Eva Hendricks recording demos on her phone while sitting in a parked rental car in Australia, thousands of miles away from her bandmates. Despite the physical distance, the remote writing process brought the band closer together, resulting in an intimate and expansive record. The album is suffused with a sense of sleeplessness, capturing the jittery feeling of new love, the raw insomnia brought on by heartache, and the late nights spent out (or in) with friends new and old.

The album’s closing track, “Last First Kiss,” feels like the perfect ending—a hopeful yet bittersweet reflection on love that endures. Charly Bliss has crafted an album that’s both a joy to listen to and a testament to the resilience of their bond. Forever is a testament to the power of friendship, love, and music, offering listeners a piece of the life they’ve built together. It’s a vibrant, colourful reminder that even in constant change, some things remain beautifully constant.
